AM sin - Silver Lining

electronic

London-based duo AM sin crafts a meticulously roaming synthetic piece with "Silver Lining." Soft sounds turn to harder territory across the six minutes of this track, but the sense of melody is never lost, even if it's never explicitly expressed. AM sin consists of composer Maria Dias Silva and sound designer Nian Canard, who are "exploring the potentials of modular synthesis & live vocals." Come for the Kernkraft 400 nods, and stay for the consciousness-expanding sonic composition. With mixing and mastering by James Ginzburg, AM sin has put together a piece that feels substantial for its multifaceted depth of sound and intentions that teeter between genuine intrigue and subtle aggro.

Soft No - Faker

shoegaze

The characteristically nonchalant slant operated by most shoegaze bands evades Philadelphia group Soft No, who inject a burning passion into their voguish and stylishly textured songs. On "Faker," a track taken from their self-titled debut EP, members Scott Signorino, Allie Lannutti, Austin Lotz, Jon Martello, and Kate Lowe seem to ruminate in the dirt before soaring skyward with enormous guitar sounds and vocals that sound just as much cries for help as they do honest expressions of emotional frustration. "Soft No" is out now on Abandon Everything Records.

Yndling - Could You Imagine?

alternative pop

From her recent album Mood Booster, Oslo resident Silje Espevik, A.K.A Yndling, delivers sweet pop objectives presented with a hi-fi studio-punch production on "Could You Imagine?", a deliciously groovy song about the inconsistencies of human relationships. At times, Espevik's Scandinavian cuteness mixed with rock brings to mind The Cardigans or Stina Nordenstam, though there's enough personality coming through in the writing to ensure this is a unique artist expressing herself without the burden of comparison. Namely, Yndling works because of the attitude of her melodies, not necessarily the melodies themselves. Like a bank robber who can charm you into giving them the keys to the safe, Yndling comes and goes, embedding her dreamy worldview into your day without you even realising.

Supercaan - Storms Over Scafell

alternative rock

There's a heartfelt warmth, cosiness, and curiosity to "Storms Over Scafell," a mysterious cut from the Birmingham five-piece band Supercaan. Taken from their recently released album A Tiger Walks The Streets, "Storms Over Scafell" intoxicates with its midnight drive aesthetic, like waking up in the back seat, slightly confused. There are streaks of synths that exist linearly to earnest vocal deliveries and scurrying percussion, and acoustic and electronic instrumentation play in tandem. Composed of members Greg Milner, Stuart White, Tom Whitfield, Justin Januszewski, and Ralph Taken, Supercaan has a bold and affecting sound on this memorable outing.

Trigger Object - My Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings

experimental

Severe distortions and sonic oddities combine on "My Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings," an unequivocally experimental concoction by Oregonian Veronica "Vern" Avola, A.K.A Trigger Object. Avola was born in Italy but now resides in Portland. By the sounds of things, she is helping to keep the city "weird." At times, Trigger Object can sound like a pinball machine malfunctioning inside of a lawnmower shop, but the music is also cleverly playful, a little bit cheeky, and auditorily entertaining. "My Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" comes from the album Ghost Bros OST, which is out now.
